City professor pays musical tribute to Guru Nanak Dev

Dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, city-based associate professor Rajan Sharma, alias Moody, has come out with a composition, ‘Guru Nanak Aaya’, which was released by Cabinet Minister Raj Kumar Verka in Amritsar today.

Rajan, who is teaching Punjabi literature at DAV College, said when it was the 550th birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru, who propagated oneness of humanity, the occasion calls for celebrations and reinforcing his message of love and peace.

He said it was his second consecutive song dedicated to the Guru.

“The song is based on the journey of the founder of the Sikhism. It tells about the journey of Guru Nanak from Kartarpur to his native village, now called Nankana Sahib, his teachings and philosophies in a poetical form,” Rajan said, adding that though his travels had been narrated in different traditions, what’s interesting is that no matter which tradition one reads, they all end up in Kartarpur.

The song was released by Venus Company worldwide today and within hours of its release on social media, it got thousands of views. His followers residing across the world appreciated the song, devoted to the first Sikh master.

He said the song motivates people to follow the path of goodwill and spread the message of equality, love and peace.Rajan said he had so far written around 100 songs and poetry based on themes of female-foeticide, drugs, unemployment, climate change, old age homes and other issues.

He said his last devotional song ‘Mubarakan’ received a lot of praise and people from all walks of life congratulated him for the song. Besides, he has also composed a song to mark ‘World Environment Day’. Rajan has been into teaching for the past over a decade. However, he never left his love for music and continued to pursue his passion.
