City shuttler bags 3 gold in national para championship

Palak Kohli, a Class XII student of Police DAV Public School, here, has brought laurels as she has bagged three gold medals in the 3rd National Para Badminton Championships 2019. The games were held in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, from March 15 to 17. It was her first participation in the national para games.

Palak, who has a left under-grown arm, bagged gold medals in the women’s single, women’s double and girls’ single U-19 categories. She got the 2nd runners-up position in the mixed doubles and, hence, declared her supremacy in all categories.

She was the state champion in the 1st Para Badminton State Championships 2019 held on February 20, 2019, at Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo. She also became the Para State Champion 2019 in athletics. She had bagged three gold medals in 100 m, 200 m and 400 m races. Dr Rashmi Vij, principal, felicitated Palak for her success.

To take part in int’l tourney beginning on March 31

She is now going to participate in the Dubai Para Badminton International Tournament 2019, to be held from March 31 to April 7. In Jalandhar, Palak used to practice at Hans Raj Stadium under coaches Jaideep Kohli, Karan Kohli, Neeraj Bansal, Varun Kumar and Harjinder Waraich. She expressed special gratitude to her guru Gaurav Khanna, para badminton head coach for international events.
