City students bag Zonal Rank in SOF

Jalandhar, June 6

Students from Jalandhar bagged the Zonal Rank in the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF). As many as 50,000 schools from 1,400 cities across 30 countries participated in the exams during 2018-19 and around 50 lakh students appeared in the Olympiad.

Around 20,000 students from Jalandhar participated in the event, of which two students got the zonal rank. In the National Science Olympiad, Jalandhar came out proud.

Zonal rank 1 was bagged by Aditya Chauhan, a student of Class IX of Apeejay School, who got a gold medal. In International Mathamatics Olympiad, Zonal Rank 2 was bagged by Bhavnoor Singh Marok of Class XII from Ek Lavya School, who got the silver medal.

The Science Olympiad Foundation organised a felicitation function to recognise and award International winning students of Olympiad exams held during the academic year 2018-19.

Justice Dipak Misra, former Chief Justice of India graced the occasion as the chief guest.

The function was held at New Delhi. During the function, top three international rank holders from Classes I to XII for the six Olympiad exams, conducted by the SOF were awarded. The chief guest said: “Courage is the mother of all virtues, if you don’t have the courage you possibly don’t get different virtues.”

The awards included: International rank one 60 awards. Each winner was awarded Rs 50,000, a gold medal, merit certificate, international rank two 60 awards. Each winner, who clinched the second position was awarded Rs 25,000, a silver medal, merit certificate, international rank three 60 awards. Each winner, who bagged the third position was awarded Rs 10,000, a bronze medal, merit certificate and gifts, each.

Michael King, Director Examinations, India, British Council, Ranjeet Pandey, president, The Institute of Company Secretaries of India and V Ramaswamy, Global Head, TCS were also present as guests.

Mahabir Singh, founder and executive director of the SOF said: “ Besides, international winner, as many as 61,000 students from 6,300 schools have been awarded for achieving top ranks. As many as 8,00,000 students have been awarded “medals of excellence” for achieving the top rank in their respective schools. A total of 2,000 principals and teachers have also been honoured for their commitment to academics.”

“From 2019-20, the SOF is launching the SOF International Commerce Olympiad for students of Classes XI and XII to assist them prepare and access their preparedness prior to their board exams,” added Singh.
