Jalandhar, December 10
As the list of the Congress candidates is getting delayed, there is much confusion about candidates and their constituencies. Amid varied reports, the question prevails “who will be fielded from where?”
The prospective candidates are being made to issue press releases to clarify their stands, that too, ahead of any list. Amid reports that District Congress Committee (urban) president Rajinder Beri could contest from Jalandhar North, he today issued a release that he would contest from Jalandhar Central, a seat where he resides and from where he has been a contender in the last elections.
He writes, “I appeal to my supporters not to believe in any such rumours appearing in print and social media. The voters of Jalandhar Central constituency have always extended their support to me and they are like a family to me. I will never shift from this constituency and will continue to be with you through thick and thin.”
There have been similar echoes from other constituencies. Amidst reports of former Akali Member Legislative Assembly Pargat Singh likely to be fielded from Jalandhar Cantonment by the Congress, another main contender and ex-MLA Jagbir Brar too has reportedly discussed his wish to contest independently from the seat. Sarpanches of villages and councillors from the Cantonment Board and Jalandhar Municipal Corporation have already expressed their support with him. Brar is reportedly in Delhi for the past three days to push his case strongly.
