Jalandhar, June 12
Having cracked the Civil Services examination with 121st rank recently, Dasuya-based girl Hitika Vasal is all set to join the Indian Police Service (IPS) training soon.
Daughter of the owner of popular Vasal Builders, who have raised several commercial buildings in Jalandhar and run a chain of schools, Hitika has spent very little time in Punjab.
Her entire education has been outside the home state. “I was a boarder at Sacred Heart School Dalhousie till Class X. I did Plus Two from DAV School Sector 15, Chandigarh. I did BA (honours) in sociology from Delhi University. For my masters in sociology, I had moved to Manchester, UK, and came back in 2014. It was only later that I stayed back in Dasuya, preparing for the examination. Even during this period, I was in Chandigarh, taking coaching for the civil services,” she said.
Hitika says she is inspired by Kiran Bedi, “She did some real exemplary work in the police. Even now, she is doing a good job as Lieut-Governor of Puducherry.” She adds, “Since I got the 121st rank and there are no officers from Punjab from rank 100 to 121, I am hopeful that I will get the Punjab cadre and will be able to serve in my own state.”
Quizzed as to how she was not interested in the vast family business, Hitika replied, “My dad, mom and brother are already taking care of business. I was more interested in going in for civil services from the beginning. I want to serve society and that is why I had chosen sociology as my subject in under-graduation as well as postgraduation. I am currently all set to move to for my training to Mussourie in August and then on to Hyderabad.
