Following the incident, Shahkot residents had protested and demanded action against the school management of St Judes Convent School Nakodar for violating the guidelines of the Punjab and Haryana High Court regarding school buses.

Ansh had alighted from the bus and was run over by the same bus later on the Civil Hospital road. The victim was a resident of Bagh Wala mohala in Shahkot.

Sources said no attendant was available in the bus due to which the bus driver could not pay proper heed to the children. Even the boy’s father had alleged that if a bus conductor was there, he could have alerted the bus driver about his child.

DC KK Yadav told Jalandhar Tribune that after the accident, he had sought a complete report on the accident from the DTO, Jalandhar, and the DTO would submit a report in a day. “The report will carry details about the violations, if any, committed by the school bus. After studying the report, I will accordingly recommend action as per the law,” Yadav added.

DTO RP Singh said the transport department had initiated an inquiry to find out the violations committed by the school bus.

As of now, the bus driver was booked under Section 304-A of the IPC and no action was taken against the school management. A senior rural police official said investigation was on and if the role of the school management came to the fore, action will be taken accordingly.
