A large number of passengers at the railway station had to wait for many hours after two trains on the trunk route were delayed while the same number of trains was cancelled for the day.
The railway authorities said the trains got delayed and cancelled due to some operational and ongoing work on tracks.
The delay in the arrival of the trains led to confusion and chaos among passengers, especially those who had got their tickets booked in advance. A large number of passengers were seen making a beeline at inquiry counters.
Meanwhile, 12460 Amristsar-New Delhi Express and 14650 Saryu-Yamuna Express remained off track. At least six long-route trains, including 12355 Rajendra Nagar (Patna)-Jammu (8.25 hours), 22424 Amritsar-Gorakhpur Express (2 hours), 15531 Jan Sadharan (1 hour ), 15707 Amarpali Express (3.15 hours) and 11057 Shane-e-Punjab (1 hour), were delayed.
The rush of passengers was more in other New Delhi-bound trains while many others decided to travel by bus.
The passengers, who came to know about the cancellation of trains on their arrival at the railway station, flayed the railway authorities for last-minute cancellation. They said the delay in the trains usually spoils their daily routine and schedule as they reach home late.
Ambuj Tripathi, a student, who had to travel to New Delhi by the 12460 Amritsar-New Delhi Intercity Express, said, “Ever since August 25, when the rail traffic was disturbed due to the agitation by Sirsa dera followers, the rail traffic is yet to normalise. The railway authorities have not been able to put the rail traffic back on tracks as many trains are still cancelled while several others are running late.”
