Dhesi has the support of his brother Paramjit Singh Raipur, SGPC member who has contested from the seat twice earlier in 1997 and 2002. Harjit Kaur Talwandi, daughter of Akali stalwart Jagdev Singh Talwandi, Zila Parishad members, block samiti members, sarpanches and Cantonment councillors were among those who attended the rally in his favour. Former SGPC president and Bholath MLA Bibi Jagir Kaur have been supporting the candidature of Dhesi. Dhesi's son Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi has been the ex-Mayor of Gravesham (England).  There are other claimants too for the ticket, including Doaba zone Youth Akali Dal president Sarabjot Singh Saabi, former MLA Sarabjit Makkar and SAD district president (urban) Gurcharan Singh Channi.
