A tree that fell on the railway tracks at Talwandi village near Adampur due to heavy thunderstorm caused the derailment of a DMU train today.
The DMU was on its way to Hoshiarpur from Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station, when it met with an accident at around 4 am causing rail traffic jam at the same route from several hours.
The rail traffic jam also delayed the Delhi-Hoshiarpur Express Rail for three hours.
The railway officials then hired a private bus to transfer the passengers to their destination.
As per the Railway official, the train left at 3.25 from Jalandhar cantonment Railway Station. The train driver could not noticed the tree fallen on the track at Talwandi village – between Bolina Doaba Station and Khurdpur Ralway Station, thus the train smashed with tree that caused derailment.
They said the big casualty has been averted due to slow speed of the train. The railway officials from Jalandhar, Amritsar and Ferozpur rushed at the spot to investigate the matter.
The railway officials expressed disappointment over the local administration’s lethargic approach to reach at the spot.
