A team of doctors at the Fortis Hospital, led by Dr Priyadarshi Rajan, began performing surgeries in critical clinical cases using Da Vinci Robot in different specialties.
The technique is being used in treating kidney transplantation, cancer, removing endometriosis ovarian cysts, fibroids in uterus, adrenal tumours and Abdominoperineal Resection (APR).
Another clinical feat was achieved when another urology consultant performed robot assisted laparoscopic Pyeloplasty and Ureteroureterostomy recently to cure blockage in upper urinary tract. This is the first time that this kind of surgery was done in Punjab and the doctor who performed it said, “This technique is much better and is an advancement over the traditional open method as well as key hole surgeries. There was a lack of precision in carrying out reconstructive surgeries like open and laproscopic, therefore, this new technique has improved precision, timing and quicker recovery due to minimal loss of blood.”
