Jalandhar, September 25
Local BJP leaders have accused Kartarpur DSP Ranjit Singh Randhawa of taking Rs 25,000 bribe from a woman for not registering a case against her in a criminal case.
Following the incident, the Jalandhar rural police have initiated inquiries to ferret out the truth.
Local BJP leader Ashok Sareen and Kishan Lal Sharma said DSP Ranjit Singh Randhawa, through a mediator Nisha, had demanded Rs 25,000 cash to prevent registration of a case against Nirmala Devi in some matrimonial dispute.
They said Nirmala had arranged some marriage by acting as mediator.
A matrimonial dispute affected the husband-wife relationship after some time but now, a compromise was being sought between the two parties for a compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh.
“Although, a compromise was being sought, the DSP was threatening to register a case against Nirmala and was demanding a bribe through Nisha. Today, Nisha also called up Nirmala and stated that she had a word with the DSP who wanted her to pay Rs 25,000 as bribe for not registering a criminal case against her,” Sareen said, adding that Nirmala along with her kin Balraj today went to pay the cash at the DSP office.
When Nirmala entered the DSP office, Nisha was already sitting there. The DSP told Nirmala to pay the cash to Nisha, which she did.
“We again went to the DSP’s office and asked him to book Nisha in a case of corruption but he categorically refused and allowed Nisha to leave. Later, we apprised the ADGP Intelligence, HS Dhillon, Jalandhar IG Ishwar Chandar, DIG and SSP Jasprit Singh Sidhu about the matter,” they said.
When contacted, DSP Randhawa said he had not taken any bribe and the allegations were motivated.
Though Nisha was present there, she had come to inquire about the accused against whom she had got a case registered in some cheating case, he said.
“I am not dealing with that matrimonial dispute. In fact it is being dealt at the Kartarpur police station only,” he added.
BJP leaders submitted a written complaint against DSP, an ASI and Nisha.
