The NBA had selected four girls from India— one of them is Harsimran Kaur- for training in America from April 3-7.

Sukhpreet Singh, Harsimran’s father said when his second daughter was born, many expressed dissatisfaction and said a boy should have been born instead. “But I never thought that way. I always treated both my daughters as sons,” he said adding that he gives coaching to his daughters.

Harsimran Kaur (15), while talking to The Tribune, said she was very happy right now. “My ultimate goal is to play for India in the Olympics. Until now, our country has not made it to that level but I wish that someday, I will get a chance to play in the Olympics,” she said.

Life similar to Dangal

For Harsimran Kaur, her life has been just like in the movie ‘Dangal’. “I have a younger sister who also plays basketball and my father, also a basketball player, gives us training the same way one has seen in the movie. He is very strict with us and this is the reason why I have reached where I am,” said the girl who has made the state proud. Harsimran said her father makes sure that they do not miss training even for a day. “Also, he is very particular about our diet and practice,” she said. Harsimran is in class XI and has opted for the Commerce stream. “I am very good at studies also, this is why I opted for this field,” the confident girl gushed.

Aspires for Arjuna Award

Harsimran Kaur is a determined player. She expressed her desire to receive the Arjuna Award one day. “I want to coach in America and represent India there, this is my dream,” said Kaur.
