As the political rivals of Aam Aadmi Party MLA and Leader of Opposition Sukhpal Khaira continue to attack him over complaints against him since reports of his summoning by a Fazilka court in a drug case, chairman of Sarv Sukh Seva Mission Arvind Mishra today moved a complaint with the Enforcement Directorate.
In his complaint before the Joint Director of the ED, Mishra has stated, “Khaira had filed his affidavit before the Election Commission regarding his status of income and assets which was approximately Rs 2 crore. In 2017, Khaira again filed his affidavit regarding his full assets and the same was approximately Rs 66 crore. How could a person with assets worth Rs 2 crore in 2007 within a period of 10 years earn a huge amount and acquire assets worth Rs 66 crore?”
Mishra suspects this could be a case of violation of Prevention of Money Laundering Act and Foreign Exchange Management Act. Khaira has been dubbing all such allegations as frivolous and a part of political vendetta against him. He has already got a stay on non-bailable warrants issued against him by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Mishra, then an NRI wing president of Doaba zone of the party, had earlier hogged the limelight for lodging a defamation complaint against AAP leader and poet Kumar Vishwas and party MP Bhagwant Mann.
In another case, Rana Ranjit Singh, the Congress leader who had contested against Khaira from Bholath Assembly seat, has moved a complaint in a Kapurthala court against the AAP MLA for allegedly changing his qualification details in his affidavits submitted before the Election Commissioner in 2007, 2012 and 2017.
Khaira defended himself saying, “I have not improved my qualification. There was a clerical mistake which I have corrected in the last affidavit.”
