Jalandhar, May 15
Members of the Sikhiya Provider Union Punjab submitted a letter regarding their demands to MLA Sushil Rinku, demanding their salaries which haven’t been released for the past five months and also the regularisation of their jobs. The union’s president Ajmer Aulakh had met the Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Sunil Jakhar at Abohar yesterday who had assured them that their demands would be addressed.
The Education Provider Union had faced many controversies during the previous Akali-BJP government regime, including the union’s agitation on the Rajni miscarriage case. The PPCC president and the Chief Minister himself had expressed his solidarity towards their cause several times. On December 25 2015, Captain Amarinder Singh had also promised the union that if the Congress came to power in the state, education providers would be regularised within 100 days. But presently on the lines of several other unions which are yet to receive their salaries, the education providers are also languishing.
Jakhar has assured to meet the demands of the union. The union members have said they shall wait until May 20 for the government to respond to their demands after which they shall decide the future course of action.
State committee member Harjinder Khaira said, “We are banking on the promise of Jakhar to ensure the meeting of our demands. But if they are not met, we shall be announcing the next course of action on May 20.”
