Efforts on to make Virsa Vihar a hub of art, says DC

Deputy Commissioner (DC), Varinder Kumar Sharma, on Tuesday said concerted efforts were being made to revamp the ‘Virsa Vihar’ for making it a unique hub of art and cultural activities in the state and connecting the younger generations with the rich and glorious heritage of the state.

Chairing a meeting of the District Cultural and Literary Society, Virsa Vihar, here today the DC said: “The gallery section, general purpose hall, open-air theatre, auditorium at the Virsa Vihar will be given new look besides a solar panel and water harvesting system have also been planned here.”

He said a reception counter will also be set up which will be managed by a responsible person and Municipal Corporation has also been asked to depute permanent persons for ensuring regular cleanliness outside the building.

The Deputy Commissioner solicited maximum participation of people for this noble cause and asked the educational institutions to use this platform in the heart of the city for showcasing their work to the people.

He told that a blueprint is being prepared in this regard to ensure the Virsa Vihar could act as a catalyst for connecting our youngsters with rich culture of the state.

Sharma said no stone would be left unturned for developing this place as a socio-cultural epicentre of the region.

He told that more and more events would be organised in the coming months at the Virsa Vihar, adding that it was all the more important as the youngsters were forgetting our rich culture.

Sharma said such the primary motive of these activities would be to ensure that our future generations stay connected with our culture.

Office Secretary of the society Capt Inderjeet Singh Dhami, District Head GoG Major General (Retd) Balwinder Singh, Alok Sondhi, Dr Inderjeet Singh, veteran journalist Deepak Jalandhari, SP Luther, Dr Anoop Vats, among others were present.
