In the murder case of a farmer at Salasar village, falling in the Sadar police jurisdiction, the city police have nabbed eight accused in the case.
SGPC member Kulbir Singh Barapind, two Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and a former sarpanch of Bara Pind village were among the dozen accused booked in the murder case. The Sadar police had also conducted a raid at the house of Barapind. However, he escaped from the house and had reportedly gone underground.
Station house officer (SHO) of the Sadar police station said the police had arrested eight accused in the case so far and they were identified as Moti, Surinder Ghug, Kamaljit, Singh, Resham, Pal Ram, Mahinder Kaler, Thakur Das and Hari Ram. Three accused, namely SGPC member Kulbir Singh Bara Pind, Balbir Bittu and Manohar Singh, a former sarpanch of Bara Pind village are at large, the SHO added.
The SHO said the police had launched a manhunt to nab the remaining accused.
Villager Shingara Chand (55) was shot dead, while his two brothers Lashman Dass and Harbilas and son Jiwan sustained bullet injuries when nearly 10 armed assailants struck at nearby Salarpur village and fired at them.
