It is seen during the inter-district school games that most of the government school students play without proper uniform and shoes. The Education Department has taken cognisance of the matter and has fixed the responsibility of education officers to make sure that students wear proper uniform and shoes while playing. Notably, it is a common scenario in the school games where the government school students play without proper shoes or some even in slippers.
It has been mentioned in the circular, which has been sent to education officers (primary and secondary), that it is observed that during the inter-district school games, the students play without tracksuits, sports shoes and socks. Also, they are not provided playing kits.
Hence, the department has put the responsibility on the district education officers (secondary and primary) to make sure that they provide tracksuits, playing kits and sports shoes to the students.
Notably, The Tribune had raised the issue through these columns in the past where students played in civil dresses, in the absence of tracksuits.
One of the teachers of Government Primary School said: “During such events, many students play without uniforms. Lack of tracksuits, shoes and arrangements do not deter them to play.”
“However, it is the duty of officials to take care of such things, as it only creates a negative image of the department” she said.
Lack of proper food arrangements
Besides, there is a mention of another issue — lack of proper arrangement of food at venues in the district where these games take place. Hence, it has been instructed that there should be a common mess where the games would be held.
Instructions have also been given to sports wing heads. The department has raised the issue and has written that complaints have been pouring in from various districts that the money that is given to the players for their diet by the department is not properly being utilised. “The players are not getting the diet properly,” the circular reads.
A proper diet plan is also given in the circular which includes cheese, non-vegetarian items, biscuits, seasonal vegetables, bananas, eggs and porridge.
