Jalandhar, January 28
The BLO Union in Jalandhar has written to the Deputy Commissioner KK Yadav, asking for a general list of couple cases to be released by his office who have been exempted from election duties.
The list is being sought by the union after 20 of the persons previously exempted from duties were called for the BLO work again.
A list of 45 persons – exempted from BLO duties – had been released by the DC-cum-DEO, of whom the union claims 20 have been called for duty again. The union has, thus, asked the DC to release a comprehensive list of couple duties – which have been cleared for exemption – again.
In a letter to the DC, the BLO Union said the union had sought exemption in couple cases from him and copies of the details of these cases were being sought regarding various constituencies since the BLO spouses were facing much difficulty.
The union has sought the list marked by the DC on January 25 2017 as well as the new couple case duty exemption list from the DC office. They have asked the DC office to mark the same to their respective EROs.
They said 20 ticked cases on the list (out of total 45 exempted) were those which had been repeated despite previous exemptions. The union has, thus, sought a general letter from the DC office clarifying all cases of couple duties which had been granted exemptions.
Rakesh Kumar, union president, said, “About 20 people have been called for duty despite being exempted in the list. The BLOs are working all the year through and hence some couples are facing much difficulty because both spouses are on the job. We have, therefore, requested the DC to release the final list so that a clear picture is available in all cases getting exemption.”
