Factory workers end protest

Jalandhar, August 14

Following the management’s decision to accept the demands of the labourers, the ongoing protest at the Jagatjit Industries Private Limited, Hamira, has ended.

The protest was being held following the alleged accidental death of Chand Singh, who was a resident of Dhirpur village and was working as a labourer at Jagatjit Industries Limited Hamira on Wednesday.

Kashmir Singh Gughshor, a representative of the Pendu Mazdoor Union, who had spearheaded the protest of the labourers, said the management had agreed to pay the compensation of Rs 7 lakh and job to one member of the family of the deceased.

ADC Kapurthala, Jasbir Singh, Assitant Labour Commissioner Baljit Singh, SPD Balbir Singh and representatives of Jagatjit Industries Private Limited were present on the occasion.

The factory management will hand over the cheque to the family of the deceased on August 16 and the body will be cremated after that.
