A felicitation programme was held on September 16 at the PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar. Kamal Kishor Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commssioner, Jalandhar, was the chief guest on the occasion. Governing body of college and Dr Kiran Arora, principal, welcomed the chief guest. Over145 students were felicitated by the chief guest. Three peer journals were also released during the function. Chief guest congratulated students on their success.
Student wins laurels
Lyallpur Khalsa College achieved a historic milestone in the field of sports. Aman Ghai, a student of Lyallpur Khalsa College, won 11 gold medals, one silver and one bronze medal in16 swimming competitions held by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He has been declared the best swimmer and has contributed to make Lyallpur Khalsa College first in the inter-college competition. Jaspal Singh Waraich, joint secretary, governing council and principal, gave Rs 15,000 to Aman Ghai for bringing laurels to the college. College principal Dr Gurpinder Singh Samra also felicitated Ghai on the achievement. Speaking on the occasion, he said the college had a policy of offering liberal concessions and advanced sports facilities to its player students, as a result of which, it had won overall sports championship of the university 13 times in the last 15 years. Sardarni Balbir Kaur, president, college management, congratulated the college sports department on the achievement. Dr Jaspal Singh, head, department of physical education, coach Umesh Sharma and Om Parkash, among others, were also present on the occasion.
Achievers’ Day
KMV celebrated Achievers’ Day to honour brilliant students who had bagged university positions in the session 2014-15. All students who had received merit positions by dint of their hard work, devotion, single-minded resoluteness and commitment, were jubilant on receiving trophies from principal Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi. Congratulating the achievers, the principal said, “KMV is the nurturing ground of scholars and 125 students had come forth as achievers bearing testimony to the same. The meritorious students must continue to strive towards excellence in future as well.” She appreciated department of student welfare headed by Dr Madhumeet and the team, comprising Rashmi Sharma, Dr Neetu Chopra and Anshu Oberoi.
Faculty development programme
A faculty development programme on innovative and corporate approach towards training and placement at the Apeejay Institute of Management, Jalandhar. It was organised in collaboration with the Jalandhar Management Association. The resource person for the guest lecture was Rajeev Jain. Ahsanul Haq, president, JMA, and Vishal Sharma, general secretary, JMA, were also present on the occasion. The resource person emphasised on the need to adopt a new perspective towards solving those challenges. Jain also showed a glimpse of life in the corporate sector. He said it is imperative that students and teachers are both well-acquainted with the life, ways and challenges of the corporate sector. He said, “It is important to organise industrial visits, guest lectures etc. for the students, however, it is more important to make most of such industrial visits, guest lectures etc.” Rajeev Jain also gave valuable insights on how to make personality development programme more beneficial for students. He also said students should be motivated to pursue various hidden but lucrative jobs like those of technical writers, stock analysts etc.
Plantation drive
Activity ‘visit to a garden’ was organised for the children of Class KG I of Innokids of Innocent Hearts School. The children enjoyed a lot. The teachers made them recognise various plants and flowers. They were explained the importance of trees in our lives. Children also planted trees. They promised their teachers to plant trees on their birthday.
Orientation session
A spiritual orientation session was organised at the Innocent Hearts College of Education for inculcating moral values and spirituality among the would-be teachers and the society. Eminent speaker E V Swaminathan presented his views on 'health and happy life through values and meditation'. Principal Dr DK Joshi said, "Such pious activities are helpful
for spreading peace and tolerance."
Guest lecture
To increase the business intellect of the management students, KCL-IMT organised a guest lecture for its MBA, BBA and B.Com (P) students by Dr Gurcharan Singh, professor, school of management studies, Punjabi University, Patiala. Dr Gurcharan Singh is an experienced management academician, his lecture served as a true repository of knowledge and thrusted upon the strategic decisions being followed by various companies at their corporate and business level to achieve sustainable growth and capability. He initiated the lecture by emphasising that the key for a successful business is to focus on its customers and aligning the product or service according to their needs. Further, he made the lecture interesting by discussing the methodology of strategies such as growth, stability and retrenchment being followed by companies in general. The complete lecture kept the students engrossed as Dr Gurcharan Singh explained the strategies being implemented by various companies in sectors such as Retail, Telecom, IT-Software, etc. He stressed that the companies should identify their core competency and should continuously work to enhance their process based skill-set, so that competitive advantage can be attained in the long term. In all, the guest lecture was thoroughly an absorbing one that was well appreciated by all the students. Dr SK Sood, Director, KCL-IMT, stated that these lectures provide a base to the students to enrich their knowledge and learning of the corporate environment. The other dignitaries present were Prof GK Jain, Vice-Principal, Prof Ramandeep Singh Deol, HOD - Management, Dr Inderpal Singh, Associate Professor, Dr Sukhmani Waraich, Prof Navjit Singh, Prof. AS Rai and Prof Sonu Dua.
GNDU zonal youth festival
A three-day Guru Nanak Dev University Zonal Youth Festival (D Zone) was inaugurated on Thursday at the Kamla Nehru College for Women in Phagwara amid much fanfare on the college campus.Dr Om Gauri Dutt Sharma, deputy director general, Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar, was the chief guest during the inauguration ceremony.
