The office of courier company DTDC on the Pathankot chowk caught fire in the wee hours of Saturday. Fourteen computers and dozens of parcels were gutted in the fire. Although the exact cause of the fire was yet to be established, the company employees suspected that short-circuit could be the cause for the incident.
Sumit Duggal, manager at the DTDC office, said the fire broke out at around 3.30 am. The security guard at the office had a miraculous escape when the sparks of the fire started. After the fire engulfed the whole office, the guard rushed out of the office and called at fire control room number.
Duggal said over 14 computers, dozens of parcels and other important documents were reduced to ashes in the fire. DTDC officials claimed that the loss could be in lakhs in the incident.
“We are ascertaining the exact number of parcels of customers lying in the office,” the DTDC official said.
Fire officer Rajinder Sharma said after receiving a call from the security guard of the courier office, two fire tenders were immediately pressed into service. Fire-tenders took around two hours to douse the flames. About the cause of the fire, Sharma said at the preliminary stage, it seemed that short-circuit might have resulted in the incident.
