Jalandhar, March 18
In order to keep a better check on the menace of illegal mining and ensure effective monitoring of it in the district, the Jalandhar administration has formed four mining sub-divisions in the district.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Varinder Kumar Sharma said as per the mining potential in the district, three mining sub-divisions had been formed in the revenue sub-divisions of Phillaur, Nakodar and Shahkot. He said these sub-divisions had a huge mining potential as their boundary touched the Sutlej, passing through the district.
However, the DC said that the fourth sub-division had been formed by combining sub-divisions I and II of Jalandhar which have comparatively less mining potential. He said the drive against illegal mining would be implemented effectively in the district so that no one was able to take the law in their hands. Asserting the district administration’s firm commitment to wipe out the mining mafia, Sharma said lawlessness would not be tolerated and the illegal miners would be dealt with a strong hand. He said the district administration was fully committed to bringing illegal mining to an end.
Sharma said that the sole aim of creating these mining sub-Divisions was to ensure that illegal mining in these potential areas was checked effectively. He said law and order would be maintained at all costs and the officers/officials in these mining sub-divisions would be held accountable for any sort of laxity. He also told the officers/officials to ensure the strict enforcement of all legal provisions to check illegal mining, if any, in the district.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (Jalandhar Rural) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar called upon the people to come forward and help the district administration to keep a strict vigil on the illegal mining in the district by registering their complaints. He said the district civil and police administration had already launched an online app, helpline number and email to facilitate the people for lodging their complaints. Bhullar said the Jalandhar (Rural) Police would take stern action against the perpetrators of this serious crime.
