In a horrific incident of cruelty, four puppies were burnt alive in a vacant plot at New Guru Teg Bahadur Avenue.

Photos and videos of the deplorable incident were soon shared on a Facebook group- notice board Jalandhar, which further triggered public outrage. Reena Kohli, a resident of the same locality who first spotted the burnt puppies, alleged that the caretaker of the plot knew that the puppies were inside but he paid no heed to the whole incident.

She alleged that the owner of the plot was also present at the spot and instead of stopping his caretaker from committing such a crime, she allowed him to clean the plot by burning the trash knowing that puppies were already there.

“The mother of the puppies watched helplessly, howling, and attempting to save her newborns. She is still roaming around the streets and crying badly,” Reena added.

The members of the NGO-Jeev Welfare society, Animal Lovers and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) gave full support to her to fight against this inhumane act. She said she along with NGO members had registered a case against the plot owners in police division number 6, but no arrests have been made so far.

When asked about the verification of the pictures that went viral on social media, SHO, division no. 6, Harjinder Singh said, “We are verifying the authenticity of the pictures, and the complaint has been forwarded to the higher officials,” he added
