Jalandhar, June 3
Anil Kumar (51), alias Billa, who was shot dead in broad daylight by bike-borne assailants here today, was an example of a successful businessman.
From a tea stall owner to becoming a prominent forex dealer in the region, his path-breaking journey towards success was still on.
Though he became a successful entrepreneur in the past few years, his life was full of hardships. He also faced lot of jerks in life when he lost his two brothers, one died in the UK, while another in India due to some severe illness.
He is survived by his father, wife, two children and one elder brother. His entry into hawala business, though, allegedly brought a bad name to him.
Family sources revealed that his father Rajinder had once opened a tea stall at the same place where now a multi-storeyed building exists by the name of Paul Garments and Surya Forex.
Anil used to help his father when they owned the tea stall opposite the police division No. 4. From the tea stall business, they moved on to open a restaurant. With the income of restaurant, they further opened garment business, which yielded a handsome income to the family, a close friend of Anil told Jalandhar Tribune.
“His (Anil’s) hardwork brought positive results when he opened a unit in the name of Surya Valves. Now with the flourishing business, foreign money changing business and garment showroom, he had recently entered the hawala business. He was also being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the FEMA case now. His firm was also raided by sleuths of the ED in July last year as he was allegedly making transactions with countries, including Canada, UK, US and Germany,” a source said.
Rajinder Beri, DCC, Urban president, said Anil had achieved success in business in a short time. From tea vending shop to industrialist and forex business, he was an example of sorts. He suffered a setback when he lost his two brothers. His brother Sunil Kumar had fought the MC election on the Congress ticket, though he fought unsuccessfully. Now Anil was also participating in the Congress events.
Law and order flayed
Condemning the murder of the businessman in Jalandhar on Friday, Hans Raj Hans said the law and order had gone out of control during the reign of the SAD-BJP alliance. Daily two-three murders are being committed, with criminal elements freely roaming in connivance with the police-politican nexus. The murder of Namdhaari Mata Chand Kaur, attack on Sikh preacher Sant Dhandraiwala and now a businessman getting murdered in Jalandhar. If big personalities are not safe in Punjab, what is the fate of the common man can be well imagined?
