Musical concert
A musical concert was organised by the youth club of Prem Chand Markanda SD College in Jalandhar. This unique collaboration brought forth the amalgam of Indian raga-based melodies with the spirit of Nordic Jazz to create a celebration of music. Sunanda Sharma, a renowned classical vocal singer, Jai Shankar, an Indian - Norwegian percussionist, Treygeve Sein with mastery in Jazz and Frode Halthi, a Norwegian Talentiaden, held the audience spellbound with their scintillating performances. Principal Dr Kiran Arora later thanked the musical stalwarts.
National Youth Day
A youth organisation, PAHAL, organised National Youth Day at the Nirmaan School for holistic education on the 151st birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanand. Prof Lakhbir Singh, while delivering his keynote address, said: "India is being known as nation of young persons by the UN and other national and international organisations. This is the time that government and non government agencies should make their policies to harness the youth energy for national development." He referred to the recently launched National Youth Policy on the 150th anniversary of Swami Vivekanand and appealed to youth to be aware of the policy. Er Liakatbir Singh conducted a quiz on youth policy of India amongst present youth. A contingent from CRPF 144th Bn, IMI Bidhipur, Sacred Hearth Nursing School students, Gandhi Camp School, staff members of Nirmaan School participated in the function.
Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya's NSS department and the Swami Vivekananda Society celebrated birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The day is celebrated as "Youth Day of the Nation". Principal Dr Atima Sharma Dwivedi was the key speaker on the occasion. She apprised students of the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda. She maintained students must imbibe self esteem, self respect and dignity in their practices. She motivated students to tread the righteous path as they are responsible for their actions and have to reap what they saw. Citing Swami Vivekananda's quote "They only live who live for others", Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi asked the youth to work for the betterment of humanity. She interacted with the students and answered their queries satisfactorily. Competitions like poster making and slogan writing were also organised on the occasion.
China visit
Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, is taking its students to National University of Singapore Research Institute, Suzhou, China, for a Winter Immersion Programme. During the course of two weeks, the students will be involved in various activities such as lectures, industrial visits, cultural activities and business studies. Earlier, students from Apeejay had visited Chengdu Textile College in China. The visit has been planned with a view to broaden the intellectual horizons and to impart an International platform for youngsters of today. A team of sixteen students, under the supervision of Dr Manisha Sharma from the department of commerce was sent by Principal Dr Sucharita who wished them luck and expressed the hope that the students would add prestige to the country's image.—TNS
