Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Crime, Harjinder Singh, said Gonder was brought on warrant as he was wanted in the case. He, along with his aides Sukhwinder Singh, alias Sukha, a resident of Sant Nagar, and Ravi of Model House, had allegedly shot dead Navjot Singh, alias Sarju, while he was driving a car adjacent to the GTB Nagar gurdwara on September 15 night, 2010. The duo dragged the occupant out of the car (PB-08AD-0089), dumped him on roadside and sped away with the vehicle.

The ACP said Sukha and Ravi were arrested by the police a few days after the crime, while Gonder was at large.

Sources said during interrogation, Gonder had confessed to committing the crime.

Gonder was also involved in the killing of a gangster Sukha Kahlwan. Sharpshooter Sukha Kahlwan was murdered in police custody near Phagwara on January 21, 2015, when the Patiala police was taking him to the Nabha jail after producing him in a Jalandhar court.
