Gurbaaz tops dist in JEE-Main exam

City boy Gurbaaz Singh Nanda has topped the district in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) - Main the results of which were declared here on Monday evening. A resident of Guru Gobind Singh Avenue and a student of MGN Public school, Gurbaaz has topped the district by scoring 99.99 percentile.

With this, he attained the 159th All-India ranking in the exam, the results of which were declared by the National Testing Agency. Besides, Bhavnoor Singh Marok and Nakul Aggarwal clinched the second position in the district by scoring 99.98 percentile and Rajas Bhatt of Army Public School remained at third spot by bagging 99.97 percentile.

This time, the exam was conducted twice in online mode: From January 8 to 12, 2019, and on April 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12. Besides Nakul, all above toppers appeared in both phases of the exam.

Gurbaaz said his best score was of the second phase of the exam in which he scored five more marks than the first exam.

Revealing his success mantra, he said: “For the past two years, I had devoted my entire time to the exam only and made it a habit of studying at least six hours a day in the initial days of preparation and when the exam approached, I used to spend over 10 hours daily. Also, during my coaching at Akash Institute, I learnt that notes made during lectures were of great help for cracking the exam. I used to give maximum time to the personal notes and revision.”

Gurbaaz, who aims to crack the Civil Services examination, credited his success to his mentors and parents and said, if anyone has to clear the exam, then he should first make a schedule for self-study and eventually the hard work would pay off.

Aiming to get admission in the IIT, Bombay Nakul, a resident of Central Town, said: “He kept himself away from all leisure for two years and focused only on the exam. Having an interest in computer science, he saidhe loves to read books on science fiction. For cracking the exam, he advised all aspiring students to always revise notes after the class and never overlook NCERT textbooks while preparations as the textbooks always hold equal importance.

Whereas, Bhavnoor, a student of Eklavya School, said: “He also aspires to do computer engineering from prestigious IITs. Speaking on his study schedule, he said: “You have to consume yourself for studies only but relaxation of body and mind was also required for getting good results. I studied over 10 hours a day.

Reportedly 81 students of Akash institute and 19 students of the St Soldier Group of Institutions successfully recorded their positions in the All India Rankings.”
