‘Guru Nanak & Nature’; 70 students take part in photography contest

Jalandhar, August 26 

To commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev here today, PG Department of Journalism and Mass Mommunication, Doaba College, organised a photography exhibition-cum-competition. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Varinder Kumar Sharma graced the occasion as the chief guest.

The theme for the competition was ‘Guru Nanak and Nature’. More than 70 students participated and submitted around 450 photographs on the theme. 

Out of the total entries, 360 photographs were selected for the final exhibition. The exhibition was organised after three day workshop on photography by a photographer from city Karamveer Sandhu.

The competition was adjudged by Karamveer Sandhu, Arundeep Teji and Lovedeep Sohal, cinematographer and Director, Punjabi music industry respectively. Arundeep Teji and Lovedeep Sohal have been the alumni of the college,

The DC said: “Through the exhibition the students have got an opportunity to showcase their creativity, and meanwhile the record of our heritage, culture and nature has too got maintained in the form of pictures clicked by the students.” He further wished that in the near future the young generation will have ample number of natural flora and fauna to capture through the camera.

Dr Simran Sidhu, HoD extended the vote of thanks to the dignitaries and said: “The students had been to different places, including Sultanpur Lodhi to capture the images.”

“It is important to conduct such events in order to make students familiar with the different traditions and aspects of photography, “ she added. 

Abha Makkar from BAJMC (Sem V) bagged the position. Rahul got the second position. Kaushal from BAJMC III and Himanshu from BAJMC I clinched the third position. Gurpreet Kaur BAJMC I and  Shabnam from BAJMC I pocketed the consolation prizes respectively.
