The Jullundur Gymkhana Club has decided to retain the membership of retired additional deputy commissioner Nasib Singh Chaudhary by passing a resolution in the general house meeting held recently.
The club earlier revoked his permanent membership as it was stated to have been granted due to a clerical mistake made on his identity card. While a serving government employee has to pay Rs 15,000 as the fee for the club membership, a retired official has to pay a membership fee of Rs 6 lakhs. Club authorities said though a temporary membership was granted to him in papers, his identity card mentioned him as a permanent member. Following his retirement from the active service, when his membership was revoked by the club authorities, he had approached the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum and then won the case against the club authorities.
Even though the Gymkhana club had filed an appeal against the decision of the district consumer forum in the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Punjab, committee members later passed a resolution on September 15 and approved the permanent membership of Nasib Singh along with three more members.
The State consumer forum stated that since the club had passed a resolution to retain the permanent membership of the complainant, the appeal filed by the club authorities had become infructuous and hence dismissed.
