In an enormous awareness drive, Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Thursday, conducted a campaign for the safety and security of passengers at the city railway station. The awareness campaign was mainly targetted at ensuring the safety and security of women passengers, who generally face inconvenience during their journey.
Several helpline numbers were issued and people were asked to update their contact lists with these numbers. The RPF officials said, though the department had received many complaints from the women passengers on eve-teasing and physical abuses, many cases went unreported due to unavailability of helpline numbers.
In this regard, the RPF issued several helpline numbers during the campaign, that would cater to different issues. Also the woman sub-inspector added, when surveyed, it was found that most of the women weren’t even aware of the helpline numbers. Hence, pamphlets containing information about all the helpline and emergency numbers were issued to the passengers at the station.
