He said these patients were taken to the drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centre here for their examination. Sinha said after the examination, three patients were discharged whereas eight of them had been referred for the Opioid Substitution Therapy.

Expressing satisfaction over the response to the helpline, the Police Commissioner said it was a step forward towards making the city drug-free.

He said besides acting tough against the drug peddlers, the police were also trying to break the social stigma associated with this menace. Sinha said due to social problems attached with the drug menace, the addicts and their families hesitate to share their problem with people even for the treatment purpose.

Under the campaign launched by the Police Commissionerate, drug addicts and their families can register with the police on the helpline number 9592918005 to get the drug addicts detoxified and rehabilitated free of cost.

The helpline number will work round the clock and the drug addicts or their families can get themselves registered through the helpline or at local police stations. They can also contact top police officers, including Deputy Commissioners of Police Rajinder Singh and Gurmeet Singh, for the same.
