Sounding fresh trouble for Dr Rajesh Aggarwal in the high-profile kidney racket, National Kidney Hospital coordinator Sadhna alias Neena Rani, today threw a letter bomb on the doctor, alleging that he was using pressure tactics to prevent her from dragging his name in the kidney racket.

Sadhna has not only blamed the doctor for applying tactics on her, she has also blamed the Jalandhar Commissionerate police for not recording her original statement in which she had told the police that the doctor was aware of the illegal human organ racket.

A copy of the letter, which Sadhna wrote during her stay in Modern Jail Kapurthala, is with The Tribune, has been confirmed by Sadhna’s husband Ashwani Kumar during the hearing on her bail petition on Friday that she wrote the letter in the jail.

Sadhna’s counsel Jatinder Arora said the doctor, who is the main kingpin in the racket, has not been leaving any stone unturned to prevent her client Sadhna from taking her name before the police.” Sadhna wrote this letter in the jail after the doctor’s men issued her threats and also offered financial attractions. We will submit this letter in the court,” Arora added.

While coming out of the court, Sadhna said, “The police has stopped me from naming the doctor in the racket.” When asked about the name of the police official who told her to do so, she didn’t name the officer.

Dr Rajesh Aggarwal, while denying issuing any threats, said, “Sadhna has been levelling allegations against me just to save her own skin in the case. This is totally rubbish, false and baseless and to divert the attention and to drag me in the case.”

Sadhna’s letter bomb

“I Sadhna (Neena Rani), am wife of Ashwani, a resident of Kishanpura. I joined National Kidney Hospital in March 2009 as a computer operator. I am giving this written statement. I had surrendered before the police on August 9, 2015, but the police showed my arrest in records on August 11, 2015. When I was in police custody, two people of the doctor came to meet me and offered me Rs 3 lakh, a fixed deposit, salary and a lawyer to fight my case. They wanted that I should not take the name of the doctor in the police interrogation in the kidney racket. Still, I didn’t pay heed and informed the police that the doctor was aware of the things going on in the hospital, but the police told me not to name the doctor in interrogation and if I did, they would not let her bail get through in the court. Later, they made me talk to the hospital supervisor Vishal on phone and he threatened me that if I did not pay heed to the advice, he would make my son Mayank (3) disappear, and due to this, I am living in fear. The police knew everything. I don’t have any cash. Whatever I did, I did on the directions of the doctor. I am innocent. Please help me”

Kaul couple’s bail plea dismissed

The anticipatory bail plea of kidney recepient Sunil Kaul and his wife Chandra Kaul, whose transplant was reportedly performed in National Kidney Hospital, was today dismissed by the local court. It was earlier deferred on August 25. The next date of hearing in the case was scheduled on August 28. Sources said the public prosecutor had opposed the bail plea on the grounds that the Kaul couple was aware that they were undergoing kidney transplant against the Transplantation of Human Organs Act and they also reportedly filed fake affidavits.

The case

On July 30, 2015, the police nabbed four persons, namely Junaid, Vardaan, Kuldeep and Saboor, for their alleged involvement in human organ trade. The accused disclosed about seven cases of illegal kidney transplant, including six at National Kidney Hospital, while one at a renowned hospital in Ludhiana. Later, the police nabbed a helper of Sunder Lab (being owned by Dr Rajesh’s wife Deepa Aggarwal) accused of changing the DNA sample of the donors and the recipients by charging a hefty fee and hospital coordinator Sadhna, alias Neena Rani. Six transplant surgeries at National Kidney Hospital, Jalandhar, were conducted (between July 4, 2014 and June 27, 2015) as per the revelation of the nabbed key accused Junaid. As per the police, one transplant was also conducted at Kidney Hospital in Ludhiana in which a donor woman, identified as Sudha of Ludhiana, had sold her kidney to some Saiyak Ahmed of Uttar Pradesh at Rs 16 lakh by faking herself as the wife of Saiyak. In seven such surgeries, around Rs 76 lakh was exchanged between the donors, and other accused involved in the racket. The police has not nominated Dr Rajesh in the FIR so far.
