HRD minister opens aquatic c’ship at LPU

PHAGWARA: Union Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Wednesday visited Lovely Professional University (LPU) and inaugurated three top events of the university here.

Union Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Wednesday visited Lovely Professional University (LPU) and inaugurated three top events of the university here. The minister initiated LPU’s ‘Study Grant’ distribution of Rs 4.1 crore to 295 meritorious students for both academics and CSR efforts.

He also inaugurated All India Inter-University Aquatics (Women) Championship 2019-20 at Olympic-size all weather swimming pool of the university. Addressing study grant award winner students at densely packed Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium of the university, the minister inspired the students to pledge to utilise each and every moment of their life; accept challenges; reach far ahead of all; ignore trivial matters; never compromise with the circumstances; and, thus prove to be born to change the world. Quoting great leaders of the country, including former President Abdul Kalam, Prime Ministers Lal Bahudar Shastri, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and PM Narendra Modi, Nishank invoked all to learn from great leaders’ lives and take India to the top in the world by adding regular glories to it.

Talking about new education policy of the country, the HRD Minister sought their valuable suggestions and hitherto more than 2 lakh suggestions have been received. He shared that being young India with young ideas, a new India is sure to arise through novel kind of works and researches.

Appreciating productive endeavours taken at LPU in diverse fields, in a very short span, the minister implored LPU to adopt more of the nearby villages under ‘Unnant Vikas’ programme and implement governmental policies there for the betterment of common folks. He also congratulated LPU for linking meritorious students’ community with its vision and mission and to make them achieve their aims. Talking about the sports field winning activities at LPU, he awakened all to be always fit to see ‘Fit India’. He wished that LPU earn prestigious ranking in the list of world’s top universities.

Earlier, the minister was received and welcomed at the campus by Lovely group chairman Ramesh Mittal, vice-chairman Naresh Mittal, LPU chancellor Ashok Mittal and pro-chancellor Rashmi Mittal. Former Jalandhar mayor Rakesh Rathore, senior civil and police authorities, parents of the award-winning students were also present.

The LPU has launched study grant through its annual LPU National Entrance and Scholarship Test (NEST) to honour meritorious students, who work hard to get admissions in the top institutions of the country including IIMs, IITs, NITs, NLUs, IHMs, NIFTs and more.
