It’s the season of rallies and almost every prominent chowk, square, roads and streets of the city across various areas are dotted with hoardings. Even as various political hoardings dotes the prominent places in the city. The MC today on the other hand claimed to have carried out an extensive drive to remove illegal hoardings from various areas of the city including the big boards which were illegally put up by activists in various areas.

While some fresh posters had been put up owing to political programmes in the city or in neighbouring Doaba towns, apart from that many older posters were also seen to stay put for the past many months which had not been removed even after the said programmes had long been over.

Sources in the MC said it was difficult to remove posters which had been up in huge numbers in a single night.

The MC teams today removed illegal posters from various areas, including Adarsh Nagar, Football Chowk, Guru Nanak Mission Chowk, Mahavir Chowk, Nakodar Chowk among others. The MC teams will continue the drives tomorrow.

At some places – like beneath flyovers and by walls of some old buildings and prominent chowks– so many posters have been put up that it is difficult to make out the walls.

Interestingly, the recent transfers of officials in charge of the department have also affected the work.

Rajiv Kumar Verma, Join Commissioner, MC, Jalandhar, said: “Only today we have removed countless posters from various places in the city. The drive was very extensive and no major area was spared. It will be continued with similar intensity tomorrow as well. Most of the posters are put up in the night and early morning hours. From small paper bills to big flex boards none are being spared.”
