Eklavya School observed International Romani Day. International Romani Day, also known as International Roma Day, takes place on April 8 every year. It was first declared in 1990. It is an opportunity to celebrate Romani culture and raise awareness of the issues faced by the Romani people. In the assembly, a student of Class III, Suhani, presented a speech explaining the significance of the day. The Romanis is an ethnic group living mostly in Europe and America. Romanis are widely known in the English-speaking world by the eponym "Gypsies". Students also discussed about different cultures and traditions and made flags and posters. Students were shown the dress worn by the gypsies. Chairman JK Gupta, Director Seema Handa and Principal Dimpal Sharma also encouraged students and appreciated their efforts to create an awareness to save the Romani culture.

Education exchange

Principal PK Dhillon from Kamla Nehru Public School, Phagwara, represented India at the E2 education exchange, the Microsoft event held at Toronto, Canada, recently. It was a global platform to share the school's journey. She addressed the International Educators Community through a presentation titled 'The digital dawn'. She also participated in the social networking challenge and was one of the winners to bag the social expert badge amongst representatives from 83 countries. The principal expressed her views and said it was a matter of pride that she had represented her country in an international conference.

World Health Day marked

Saffron Public School celebrated World Health Day by organising a yoga camp on the school premises where nearly 700 students, along with teachers, participated. The initiative was co-operated and conducted by the members of Bhartiya Yog Sansthan (BYS). State president, BYS, Kundan Virmani, headed the camp along with his team. Students were apprised of various yog asanas and health tips to lead a stress-free healthy life.

Guest lecture

Prof Surinder Singh Matharu, an eminent Gurmat Sangeet scholar from UK paid a visit to Lyallpur Khalsa College to address students of the department of music. College Principal Gurpinder Singh Samra welcomed Prof Matharu and honoured him with a special souvenir. Prof Matharu shared his valuable views on various ragas and forms of Gurmat Sangeet prevalent overseas, which was followed by a musical presentation by the students of the department. Other members from UK also accompanied the chief guest on this occasion which was concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Samra. Also present on the occasion were Prof Sukhdev Singh, Prof Pavittar Singh and Prof Daljit Singh from the department of music.

High scores

Students of BA (Semester III) at HMV College bagged top positions in the university in English (hons) examination held in December last year. Radhika Malhotra got the first position securing 77 out of 100 marks. Diksha Pahwa got the second position securing 73 out of 100 marks. Principal Ajay Sareen congratulated the staff and students for their achievements.
