Ish Arora is NEET topper in district

The National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the results of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) today. Ish Arora (17) bagged the first position in the district by clinching 263rd All India Rank (AIR). A student of Delhi Public School, here, Ish scored 670 marks out of 720 and received maximum percentile in physics (99.98), followed by chemistry (99.87) and biology (99.74).
With an aim to become an eye specialist, Ish was preparing for the exam for the past two years and said his constant preparation helped him get a good score.
He said: “Earlier, I was afraid to even prepare for the national-level exam, but when I started consuming myself in the syllabus, I realised that I could clear the exam. Studying for around six hours in the beginning and gradually extending the study hours helped me understand each and every concept.
Besides, the guidance from my father and teachers helped me in planning and plotting the time table for the preparation”. While his father Chiman Arora is a doctor, mother Suman Arora is a government schoolteacher. With the 263rd rank, he is hoping to get a seat in the Government Medical College, Chandigarh.
Revealing his success mantra, Ish said the exam was undoubtedly tough, but understanding the concepts in Class XI and thorough revision before six months of the exams made his way easier.
He said anyone could clear the exam by being regular in the preparations and practicing mock test repeatedly. Notably, his brother Osho Arora also bagged 2,663 AIR and became the third topper in the district.
The second position in the district was bagged by, Surabhi Khanna, a resident of Friends Colony. She scored 99.87 percentile by obtaining 640 marks and 1172nd AIR. Surabhi, who credited her success to her parents and teachers, said the precise revision of NCERT text books helped her get better score.
As many as 3,500 city students had appeared in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) which was held across three centres in Jalandhar today. The cut-off this year has gone up to 50 per cent for general category, 40 for OBC, SC and SC categories.
Some of the students who attained AIR below 4,000 are; Sailesh Kumar Naik, Divyanshu Sharma, Mohammad Azrain, Abhishek Sharma and Sahil Gandhi.
