Jalandhar NIT’s ranking drops to 113th spot

Among the list of top engineering colleges in the country, the ranking of Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jalandhar, has dropped to the 113th spot.
The list under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was released by President Ram Nath Kovind. The NIRF is a methodology adopted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, to rank institutions of higher education in the country.
Apparently, the ranking of the the NIT has persistently fallen from 42nd in 2016 to 74th in 2018 to 113th in 2019.
Whereas, improving its ranking, Punjab Technical University (PTU) has managed to register itself under top 100 engineering colleges by acquiring the 96th spot. After the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology and the Ropar IIT, the IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU), Jalandhar, stood at the 3rd position in the state and the NIT at the 4th position.
Compared to the previous score of 38.65, the NIT scored 35.01 marks and the PTU scored 35.99 marks.
While speaking on the low score, Dr LK Awasthi, Director, NIT, said there was a bit problem in the data send to the ministry regarding the difference between student-teacher ratio and besides, the research work should have enhanced but it did not get highlighted this year. NIT offers various courses in BTech, MTech and PHD.
The NIRF ranking is conducted by the MHRD every year and the framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations arrived at by a core committee set up by the MHRD to identify parametres for ranking various universities and institutions.
These parameters cover teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcome, outreach, inclusivity and perception.
IKGPTU in top 100 engg colleges
