Phagwara, August 7
A Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra (PMBJK) has been started by the faculty of Applied Medical Sciences (LFAMS), Lovely Professional University (LPU), on its campus.
The university was selected for setting up of a Kendra by the Bureau of Pharma Public Sector Undertakings of India (BPPI), Department of Pharmaceuticals Government of India. The move would bring down the healthcare budget of thousands of people at the campus by providing “quality generic medicines at affordable prices”.
The LFAMS endeavoured the whole process for general benefit of students, members of staff and thousands others visit the campus. Senior business development manager at BPPI Arafat Ali and District Drug Inspector Anupama Kalia, both alumni of LPU, inaugurated the kendra.
Varsity registrar Monica Gulati said with the establishment of kendra, the university had become the first institution in the state to have such a site on its campus. She further said the mission was to create awareness regarding generic medicines and that high price of medicines might not be synonymous with high quality. The university also has on-campus hospital which is operational all day and night, with facilities to manage all sorts of medical emergencies. —OC
