Kamla Nehru College holds 44th annual convocation

Phagwara, November 6

Degrees were conferred to more than 380 post graduate and under graduate students at the 44th annual convocation and award presentation ceremony of Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara, on Sunday. Dr Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Secretary, University Grants Commission, New Delhi, presided over the function and gave away degrees and prizes to the winners.

Dr Sandhu along with college principal Dr Kiran Walia and other members of the college managing committee inaugurated the event by lighting the traditional lamp.

While delivering the convocation address, Dr Sandhu talked about the role of education in women empowerment and appreciated the college for playing a pivotal role in providing quality education to girls of the area under the stewardship of its chairman IK Sardana. Dr Sandhu also threw light on the initiatives being taken up by the UGC in uplifting the status of higher education in India. He advised students to work with honesty and hard work and contribute to the society and motivated teachers to make productive use of technology in classroom teaching.

Principal of the college Dr Kiran Walia presented the annual report and talked about the achievements of the college, its students and activities of various departments. Earlier, students of MA Hindi, Punjabi, economics, political science, M.Sc computer science, fashion designing, M.Com, BA, B.Com, BCA, BBA, B.Sc medical, non medical, economics, computer science and fashion designing were awarded degrees during the event. Students of the music department enthralled the audience with their performances. Besides degree holders, college students who bagged university positions, merit positions, distinction and remained winners in the GNDU zonal youth festival were also awarded by the institute.

On the occasion, college magazine “Aastha”, research journal “Prayas”, newsletter of science department “Science Spin”, newspaper of journalism and mass communication department “Campus News” and a book written by Dr Nimratdeep Kaur were also released.
