Kapurthala SDM raids hotels, sweet shops

Following the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Tayyab to ensure quality of food items during the festival season, Kapurthala SDM Nayan Bhullar, along with food safety officers, today conducted raids at hotels and sweet shops.

The main establishments where raids were conducted include London Hotel, Ramneek Hotel, Basant Hotel, Ahuja Sweets and Sham Sweets among others.

The officials checked the kitchens of various hotels. Samples of food items and sweets were also collected.

Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Dr Harjot Pal and food safety officer Satnam Singh were also present on the occasion.

The officials instructed the hotels and sweet shop owners to sell only those items, which cleared all purity tests.

They told the owners to be especially careful regarding food items made from milk.

The officials also told the owners to ensure that the employees preparing the food were healthy and the place where the food is being prepared was clean.

They instructed that the oil and ghee used for the preparation of sweets and snacks, along with other food items, should be of good quality.

They said if there was any complaint regarding adulteration of food, the Civil Surgeon’s office must be informed immediately.

Dr Harjot Pal said only permitted food colours be used in sweets. He said in 100 kg of sweets, only 20 gm food colour could be used.

Dr Pal added that so far, as many as 32 sweet samples had been collected in the district, which had been sent for testing at a lab in Kharar. — TNS
