The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police today nabbed six members of the dreaded ‘Bhalu’ gang that had allegedly committed various heinous crimes in the district.
Commissioner of Police Praveen Kumar Sinha said notorious gangster Gursharan Singh, alias Bhalu, who was wanted by the police in around 15 serious cases, was arrested by the police after getting secret information. He said the district police had registered 13 cases against the gangster, including that of attempt to murder. He was involved in a series of crimes and had been declared a proclaimed offender (PO) in several cases.
The other gang members were identified as Manmohan Singh, alias Manu, Harjeet Singh, alias Happy, Paramjot Singh, alias Bhau, Mohit Gupta and Vishal Sharma.
Regarding the modus operandi of the gangster, he used to extort money from people by spreading terror. He said his gang was involved in many heinous offences and once used to smash window panes of cars of city residents to create panic in their minds.
The Commissioner said during the run-up to the Assembly polls, Bhalu and his accomplices had attacked their rival Pancham on Cool Road. He said that in this murderous attempt though Pancham had survived, now Bhalu gang was again trying to eliminate him, for which it was continuously carrying out recces.
The Commissioner said to nab the gangster, a special team was constituted and on getting information, it cordoned off an area at Subhana Chowk when it spotted a Honda City car coming from Subhana towards the city. When the police party asked the car to stop, Bhalu, who was driving the car, tried to flee from the spot. The police party chased the car and nabbed Bhalu and his accomplice Manmohan Singh, alias Manu Dhaba, besides recovering a pistol, two magazines and six cartridges from Bhalu and a pistol, a magazine and five cartridges from Manu Dhaba. During investigation, Bhalu and Manu Dhaba also named their other gang members who were actively involved with them, after which the police arrested them also.
