The Doaba Kisan Sangharsh Committee today held a dharna outside the District Administrative Complex and demanded a loan waiver from the state government. The committee also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner and raised slogans against the government.
Satnam Singh Sahni, a member of the committee, said the Congress government was running away from its promises made before coming to power.
“The farmers had voted for the Congress government because it had promised to waive loans and the government has now imposed many conditions for the farmers for a loan waiver of up to Rs 2 lakh. We are feeling deceived,” the members said and demanded that the government ensure lifting of all crops.
They also demanded that the pesticides and fertilisers must be exempted from Goods and Service Tax (GST). The members said if the government does not listen to their demands, they will intensify their protest.
