Jalandhar, July 2
On the sidelines of the two-day state executive of the BJP that concluded today, senior BJP leader from Punjab, Dr Subhash Sharma, has shot off an open letter to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. In his letter, Sharma has mainly touched the issues pertaining to the promises being made by the AAP for the Delhites, particularly the youth, which he claims have not been fulfilled. In his letter, the BJP leader has not just lambasted Kejriwal for making false promises to the people of Delhi but has also asked him to do some self-introspection and stop indulging in cheap politics.
“The AAP is declaring its youth agenda on July 3. You promised the moon to the people in Delhi but in the last 17 months of your rule, you could not deliver on a single issue. You used the emotions of youth in Delhi and in these months, they not only feel cheated but also, there is a feeling of despair. It was reflected in the humiliating defeat of your student outfit in the DUSU polls, despite you, along with your ministers and MLAs, taking full interest in it”, reads the letter, a copy of which was released to the media.
Sharma, who has been the right hand man of former state president Kamal Sharma, asked Kejriwal that he should tell the youth of Punjab how his party faired on the promises made for the youth in the party’s 2015 election manifesto. “I am also aware of your habits of using foul language, and modus operandi of shoot and scoot, but it would be enlightening for us if you can reply to my letter,” he asserted.
Sharma wrote in the letter, “On one hand you (Kejriwal) promise to make Delhi a drug-free state, on the other hand, your government takes a step ahead and has opened up special wine shops for women. Your colleagues are propagating a need for allowing wine shops to stay open round the clock”.
Taking a dig at the AAP, Sharma wrote in the letter, “Punjab, for the last so many decades, battled with the menace of terrorism, alcoholism and drug abuse. Your own leaders have the audacity to attend press conferences, religious functions and even Parliament sessions in inebriated mode, why should youth of Punjab trust your words on drugs.” He also stated in the letter that during the election campaign, the AAP promised to set up new modern drug de-addiction centers, while asking Kejriwal to share the address of all those centres the Delhi government opened.
In the letter, Sharma mentioned, “Should I talk about your commitment to provide free Wi-Fi to entire Delhi? The youth of Delhi is also awaiting your grand plan to generate eight lakh jobs. You went to town while stating that you have increased the budget for education but where is your blueprint for setting up of 500 new schools and 20 new Colleges. How many vacancies were filled by your government in last 17 months.” Sharma advised Kejriwal not to take people of Punjab, particularly the youth, as taken for granted.
