Lyallpur Khalsa College has won the Athletics Championship of Guru Nanak Dev University by bagging 56 points. The college has won the championship 10 times since its start in 2004. College principal Gurpinder Singh Samra congratulated team coach Sarabjeet Happy, team incharge Tarsem Singh and players. Dr Samra said it was a matter of pride for the college that its player Jagmeet Singh was chosen to represent the university team in further competitions. Governing council president Balbir Kaur congratulated Dr Samra, Head of the department of physical education Jaspal Singh and the staff associated with the success.
Discussion on short film held at Doaba Clg
The PG department of journalism and mass communication organised a screening-cum-discussion session of 21-minute short documentary “Shoe Polish” directed by department’s alumnus Nakul Batara. Actors Sarpanch Hazara and Deepak Malhotra graced the occasion. They were accorded a hearty welcome by principal Naresh Kumar Dhiman, Head of the Department Simran Sidhu, faculty and students. The documentary is based on a conflict between poor parents and their 16-year-old son who does not understand the value of hard-earned money and diligence. Students participated in the question hour session and discussed various aspects of the movie.
Innocent Hearts School observes Vigilance Awareness Week
The Vigilance Awareness Week was observed on the premises of Innocent Hearts School, Green Model Town, Jalandhar with the mission to fight against corruption. Students of Classes VI to VIII were engaged to write slogans and make posters with the theme “Public participation in eradicating corruption”. Students took part in the event enthusiastically and portrayed meaningful messages through their creations. To promote integrity in public life, students of class IX and X presented a street play titled “Jago Grahak Jago”. The acting, costumes and thematic presentation won over the spectators. “E- governance as an effective tool to curb corruption” was the topic allotted to students of XI and XII for composing essays comprising 350 to 400 words. The Director-Principal of the school, Dheeraj Banati, appreciated the efforts of students and said the school would organise more such activities to inculcate greater awareness on vigilance in public life.
GNA University participates in “PARGAAS 2016”
Students of GNA University brought laurels to the institute by participating in the youth festival “Pargaas 2016” held at Shri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, on November 3-4. Students bagged the first position in three major events- declamation, online gaming and science mania and won the second position in Malwai Gidha competition. Winning students Tansheema, Jaspreet Singh, Amarjit Singh, Akash Babbar, Vinay Kumar Singh and the energetic team of the Malwai Gidha from the Faculty of Design and Innovation, Engineering, Computational science brought kudos to the university.
University Pro-Chancellor Gurdeep Singh Sihra motivated students to achieve great heights of success through hard work. He congratulated the students and the staff for the success.
APJ wins inter-zonal youth fest
Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, celebrated its 17th consecutive victory of the inter-zonal youth festival 2016 of the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. All youngsters and students of the college made it memorable while exhibiting their talents in the competitions. The college has grabbed this victory with a huge difference of 74 points. College student Anadi Mishra played a vital role in guiding students through the competitions.
Principal Dr Sucharita felt elated and congratulated the staff and students for immense contribution to the success. She also wished them luck for the upcoming north zone youth festival.
Navy holds placement drive at CT
The joint campus placement drive at CT Group of Institutions, Shahpur Campus, held in collaboration with the Indian Navy for the recruitment of B.Tech 2017 passing out batch, concluded on Monday.
It is the fourth visit of the Navy at the institute for the recruitment purpose. The drive was held under the University Entry Scheme and provides an opportunity to students of various engineering branches to serve in the Indian Navy as short service commission officer.
More than 180 students appeared from the CT Group of Institutions, Lovely Professional University, Sant Baba Bagh Singh, Giani Zail Singh College of Engg and Technology (Bathinda), Gulzar Group of Institutions (Khanna), Beant College of Engineering and Technology (Gurdaspur), Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, (Ludhiana). The selection process comprised of group discussion and interview, on the basis of which the Navy would shortlist students for SSB test for the final recruitment. A team of four officials, including Cdr Baldev Singh, Cdr RS Mann and Lt Cdr RP Singh conducted the selection process.
CT Group chairman Charanjit Singh Channi thanked the Navy for conducting the placement drive on the institute’s campus from the last three years.
