Hoshiarpur, October 29
The popular folk dance of Punjab — Bhangra — was the main attraction on the second day of the 59th Panjab University Inter Zonal Youth and Heritage.
Instrumental music and Indian orchestra, too, made the audience shake their leg. On the spot painting, collage making, clay modeling, poster making and cartooning showcased glimpses of talent of participants. In the still life painting and drawing, participants showed different dimensions of life.
The Chabbewal MLA, Dr Raj Kumar, PU Youth Welfare director, Dr Nirmal Jaura, DAV College Managing Committee president, Dr Anoop Kumar, secretary Principal DL Anand, Dr Arvind Kumar and college Principal, Dr Neerja Dhingra, lighted the inaugural lamp.
While addressing the participants and the audience, Dr Rajkumar said such events were essential for the integrated development of students. He said the purpose of education was the all round development of students. Such events played an important role in it, he added. He motivated students to move ahead with determination to achieve success in life.
Prof Tracy Kohli and Prof Pooja Vashisht managed the stage. Office-bearers and members of DAV College Managing Committee, festival organising secretary, Dr Kulwant Rana, Principals of different colleges, zonal coordinators and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
In Bhangra competition Government College, Ludhiana, was declared winner while the host DAV College, Hoshiarpur, came second. JCDAV College, Dasuya, and DAV College, Chandigarh, remained joint third.
In group dance, Khalsa College for Women came first while second place was jointly bagged by Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur, and Dashmesh College, Badal. The third position was shared by SD College, Hoshiarpur, and DN College, Moga.
In group song GHG College, Sudhar, was declared first, PG Girls College, Sector 11, Chandigarh, and National College, Ludhiana, shared the second position while SGGS Khalsa, Mahilpur, and GN College, Ludhiana, came joint third.
