Jalandhar, May 27
Taking action against statements of suspects held in the Jaimal Nagar firing case, the police today arrested main culprit who openly fired bullets during the incident.
The incident took place on May 14 at 9 pm in Jaimal Nagar when a small argument between two groups of BJP and Congress workers turned ugly and Sahil Sahu, a resident of Vivek Nagar, was injured badly in the incident. Further, on the statement of Simranjeet Singh, at whose shop the incident occurred, the Rama Mandi police had registered a case against nine suspects under Sections 452, 427, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC. While one of the accused, Rahul Arora, was arrested on May 15, Sukhraj Singh and Puran Singh surrendered themselves on May 23.
DCP (investigation) Gurmeet Singh said during investigation suspect Sukhraj told the police that when he and his associates had gone to meet Sahil at his friend Simranjeet’s shop, Shivam Chauhan (another friend of Sahil) started firing shots and his other associates attacked them with empty bottles. However, in return they also attacked them and Sahil with sharp weapons.
Acting swiftly on the statement of Sukhraj, the police lodged a cross case in the incident and booked Shivam, Simranjeet, Lucky Kalyan, Aman and Rahul under Sections 336, 506, 148, 149 of the IPC and 25/54/59 of the Arms Act. Shivam, alias Tota, a resident of Dhan Colony, was arrested from the Central Jail, Kapurthala, on production warrant. Gurmeet said two-three bullets were fired from an illegal weapon during the incident and taking cognisance of Sahil’s ‘grievous’ injury, the suspect was booked under Section 352, IPC.
