A new wall painting in yellow and green colour has started at the Pathankot bypass in front of Sarb Multiplex T-point, while another painting with a floral pattern has been done on the wall in front of Apeejay School last month.

Although, during the initial projects, only the pillars of flyovers and bridges were being painted, but now the entire stretch of flyover walls is being coloured in different patterns. This initiative of the MC is being appreciated by the residents.

The MC authorities are spending a hefty sum on these paintings to convert these intersections into a green belt. Meanwhile, social messages are also being painted and at some walls portrait of great leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi and programmes of ‘Beti bachao Beti padhao’ are too being highlighted. Even the flex boards are being installed to hide the filthy roadsides.

Residents are elated over the move of the MC for beautificant to save the public money. “It is good to beautify the city walls, as anyone who enters the city first look upon its beautification and management”, they say.

“Colourful paintings look good but these should exist for long. Moreover, all the illegal dumping points here should also be converted into green belts. Whenever any family member from abroad makes a visit to the city, he should realise that Punjab is on the verge of development,” said Gurmeet Singh, a local resident.

The MC Smart City Project Head, Girish Dayalan, said, “Many more beautification programmes are underway. Apart from wall paintings even maintenance of public parks and various junctures is also planned. Slowly and gradually many more projects will take place and city will soon witness development in all spheres”.
