The beneficiaries of the MGNREGA Scheme today held a protest in front of the Block Development Office at Mehatpur. They were protesting against the government’s failure to provide them employment.

While addressing the gathering, Rajni, Anita Sandhu and Jaswinder said: “It is mandatory to provide 100 days employment under the scheme, yet some of the villagers have got only 12-days employment. Developmental work at various villages has been stopped in connivance with the village panchayat.

They demanded that the procedure to provide jobs under the MGNREGA Scheme be made fully transparent. They said despite the government’s declaration to hold common meeting in the village under Gram Sabha for the village development on October 2, yet nothing happened in this regard. The members of Pendu Mazdoor Union, Naujwan Bharat Sabha and Istari Jagriti Manch also participated in the protest.
