Minor raped in village

PHAGWARA: On a complaint lodged by a teenaged girl, a resident of Khurampur village, the Sadar police have registered a case under Section 376 of the IPC and the POCSO Act against Jai Dev Singh, a resident of the village, on the charges of threatening the girl and raping her at her residence when her parents were away. The victim was admitted to the Civil Hospital for medical examination. The accused is still at large. OC

Girl commits suicide

Phagwara: Suman (21), a resident of Bhanoki village, here, reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself with the ceiling at her house on Wednesday night. Stress was said to be the cause behind taking the extreme step, the police said. The police have registered a case and handed over the body to her family after autopsy. OC

Two held with heroin

Phagwara: The police seized 20-gm of heroin from Nirmal Kaur and Jaswinder Kumar, both residents of Malikpur village, and arrested them on Wednesday night. The accused were riding a bike when they were stopped by the police at a check point near Malikpur village. The police seized15-gm of heroin from Nirmal Kaur and 5-gm   from Jaswinder Kumar. A case has been registered. OC
