Multi-skill development centre gets operational

A multi-skill development centre that has been set up under the aegis of the Punjab Government’s Punjab Skill Development Mission in Jalandhar has become operational and will provide training to more than 1,700 youths from the district annually.

Spread over sprawling 5 acres at Leather Complex, the centre has been transferred for operations to IL&FS Skill Development Corporation Ltd which is the largest skill development centre operating in more than 25 states of India.

IL&FS Skills has trained and placed over 6 lakh youths in the last few years.

Head of the centre KJS Pannu said the trainees in the age group of 18-35 who reside within the municipal limits and whose family income is less than Rs 2 lakh annually were enrolled, trained and placed there.

It may be mentioned here that the technical support and monitoring is done by the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (NIRD & PR).

Out of the total 1,700 trainees, 800 will be admitted from the city, 500 from rural areas and another 400 beneficiaries of building and other construction workers (BOCW) and their wards will take training and placement services at the MSDC, Jalandhar.
